Finished Size: 50” x 50”
Cutting Instructions:
Background Fabric:
Cut 72 3 7/8” squares**
Each Fat Quarter:
Cut 6 3 7/8” squares**
Cut 7 2 ½” x 5 ½” rectangles
Blue Pindot Fabric:
Cut 6 2 1/2” x width of fabric border strips
Cut 4 5 ½” squares
Step One: Prepare Pinwheel Blocks
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of all 3 7/8” background squares.
Layer a background 3 7/8” square and a 3 7/8” pindot square making sure all edges are even. Stitch ¼” away from the drawn line on each side.
Cut on the center line and press towards darker fabric. Each square should be 3 ½”
Repeat this step to make 144 Half Square Triangles –
12 of each Pindot fabric. Make 144
Sew the Half Square Triangles into pinwheel blocks as shown below. Press each rows seams in opposing directions. Make 3 blocks out of each pindot fabric
Repeat above step to make 3 pinwheel blocks out of each pindot fabric. You will have a total of 36 pinwheel blocks.
Each pinwheel block will be 6 ½” square. (6” finished).
Step Two: Assemble the Quilt
Stitch the blocks together in 6 rows by 6 columns.
Center should measure 36 ½” x 36 ½” square.
Step Three: Attach Borders
Inner Border:
Piece border strips as needed.
Pin one 2 ½” x 36 ½” border strip to each side of the quilt.
Match centers and ends and ease fullness as you pin the border strip. Sew each border strip and press towards the border strip.
Pin one 2 ½” x 40 ½” border strip to the top and bottom of the quilt. Match centers and ends and ease fullness as you pin the border strip. Sew each border strip and press towards the border strip.
Outer Border:
Sew 20 2 ½” x 5 ½” rectangles together into one strip
Repeat step above to make a total of 4 strips
Pin 5 ½” x 40 ½” pieced border strips to each side of the quilt. Match centers and ends and ease fullness as you pin the border strip. Sew each border strip and press towards the inner border
Sew the 5 ½” corner blocks to each end of remaining pieced border strips.
Pin 5 ½” x 50 ½” pieced border strip to the top and bottom of the quilt. Match centers and ends and ease fullness as you pin the border strip. Sew each border strip and press towards the inner border.
Quilt & bind as desired
