RACHEL- Treasure Coast, Florida
Hello Everyone! I've been on the Treasure Coast, FL (a.k.a. “Hurricane Alley”) since August 2004. Previously I was from Central NY State. I reside in my first new home- with lots of fat 1/4's and UFO’s lying around! I'm 38, married to my 5th child (LOL!) seriously though ....my husband and I have 4 children (A girl-18, a boy-13, a girl-9, and last but not least a boy-7). So it's always a little crazy here! I had been teaching dance for the past 20 years (owned my own studio for a number of years in NY) and have been teaching Ballet, Tap, Jazz & Ballroom Classes at a few local studios until this past year when I decided to “hang up my dance shoes” and retire. The past few years I have held various positions for non profit organizations, where I’ve worked in several capacities: executive assistant, special events, PR/Marketing and Webmaster. I recently have taken “the plunge” and am in the process of taking my own business, a web & graphics design company, www.tallnetworking.com full time. I am very involved with my local ABWA Chapter (American Business Women’s Association) www.abwacoralsprings.org. I really enjoy helping women business owners by educating them & helping them reach their full potential on the web. If not busy enough, I am also Den Leader for a local Cub Scout Group. I started dabbling in quilting after my 2nd child was born in 1993. No one in my family quilted- I just saw a quilt show one day, picked up a book and the rest was history. I did stray for a few years but now I'm back and hooked! I do however need to find more time to keep myself actively involved each week.......other than every few months) Other than my family, dancing, web design, cub scouts and quilting...I love romantic comedies, camping (the old fashioned tent and sleeping bag way), Amusement Parks (roller coasters!), and most of all: I love a great cup of coffee with a chatty friend on a comfy couch! Happy Quilting!
JOYCE- in Nevada
I am Joyce , from Beatty, Nevada, 125 miles north of Las Vegas.I came from Calif., 11 years ago with Bill my husband, our boys Kevin and Kurtis and Granddaughter Karla, we were guardians for her. They have all left the house except Kurtis comes home with family every 4 weeks for a week. So since all are gone I have one of the four bedrooms for my sewing room. It is packed to its gills with fabric, UFOs, WIPs, 2 desks that cant be used because their tops are full, 2 chairs not useable, sewing table and etc.---this still doesn't count for the 12 Rubbermaid boxes under our bed that are full of assorted craft items. I am a “Jane of all Trades. I have dabbled in almost all types of crafts. I started to quilt in the mid 1970s and started a Grandmothers Flower Garden that is English paper pieced---as of this day is still not done. I married and was working so quilting was put on the very back burner. My mom started to quilt in the early 90s as the lady across the street was sharing things she made and got her hooked. I started back in 1998 when my Girl Scout troop made 2 quilts for a service project and then I started to buy, buy, and buy and so on new fabrics. I really like mysteries, and am a very traditional type quilter. I have at least 10 tops waiting to be quilted which I prefer to do by hand. I do machine quilt if it is only making straight lines. In between trying to sew DH and I run a small RV Park. We have 2 DGDs Karla-20 and Krystal-2, a DGS Billy-4 months and a DGD Kayona on the way within the next few weeks. The southern Nevada desert is my backyard. I see burros, coyotes, listen to the Amergosa Bull Frogs at night, I haven’t seen many snakes lately, and watch the tarantulas migrate in the fall. We do get snow but it melts by the afternoon. The most we ever got at one time was 8 and it is the driest snow as you can’t make a snow man with it---we tried. I love being on the computer with other quilters because it gives me inspiration and new sites to look for more quilting patterns.
Jeanne- Central NY
Hello everyone! I'm a new kid on the "block" --ha, bad quilting joke-yes I love ridiculous jokes and play on words stuff-but anyway, I am in love with quilting. I have a brand new sewing machine and haven't sewn since-let me see-8th grade I think. I already have a small stash of material! I am a glass beader and gardener. I think glass beading is kind of like quilting The more beads you see the more you just have to have and the more projects you can envision, ...am I right? I also love photography! I even won a prize last year at our county fair for a photo I took in my garden! I live in central New York, am 44, happily re-married four years ago, and have two boys who are 13 and 15 and full of beans. I am a co-leader for my youngest son's 4-H group and am I just finished my BA in Nursing and just passed my RN Boards! I will be working at a teaching hospital and am disgustingly excited about it all! I am glad to be a part of the group-hope to meet up with you all soon-happy quilting!
JUDI- Western USA
I am on the downhill slide to 60, still working. I have been in the process of divorcing my husband of 33 years for the past 7 months and am going to move to Alaska once everything is settled. I love nature, the outdoors, animals and children. I am short and round and have sort of strawberry blonde hair, a little grey on the temples now. I love to read, especially fantasy and science fiction, but will read about anything. I do not like television, almost never watch it. I do love movies though, and when my TV is on I am usually watching a a movie from my collection of about 500. I have been quilting for about 6 or 7 years. I inherited my DMIL unfinished tops as none of her daughters wanted them. I started learning how to quilt with the hopes of finishing a top for each of my sons. I particularly love bright, jewel tone colors and frequently have trouble finding anything in my stash for backgrounds. I do machine piecing and a little hand applique, all machine quilting. I struggle to name my favorite block, there are just too many. My near future goal, in addition to moving to Alaska, is to go to Ireland for at least a month and rent a little cottage by the sea
Mary Ellen-CT
I have only 8 months left to be in my 60s! Guess that makes me the oldest on this list. As the saying goes "young at heart, challenged in other places." LOL! DH & I will celebrate our 49th anniversary in July. I have three grown children (no grandchildren). I like to quilt, read, sing in the church choir; will do most anything to get out of the kitchen. I like to eat; but don't like to cook. I have been quilting since 1962 when I made a cradle quilt for my daughter. It was/is a simple nine patch that used up some leftover dress fabric and backed it with a small sheet. I almost gave up on quilting after that puppy. LOL! I like to machine piece and hand quilt. I'm just beginning to enjoy hand appliqué..Peace, Mary Ellen in CT
“Larina”- in Texas My name is Larina H. and I live just outside of Dallas, TX. I have three children, two step children, all grown/gone; and live in the country with hubby, a pug, chickens, a duck, parakeets and goldfish. I like traditional quilting as well as gardening and reading. I run a business from home, making quilt patterns. My website is http://lquilts.com. Currently, my favorite quote is, “Wanna hear God laugh? Tell him your plans…” and I don’t remember who said it. I think the best things in life are little surprises, like a warm smile, a perfect sunset, a hug from someone you love.
Darcey- in Alaska
I'm 49, single and mother of 2. My daughter, Alison, will be 27 and lives in Anchorage. My son, Greg, is 15 and lives with me. I'm blonde, hazel eyes, 5'4" and @ 40 lbs overweight. Trying to lose those pounds by in time for my cruise. I'll be 50 next year and I want to look good!! LOL I'm a deputy clerk for the Alaska Court System. I work at the Palmer Courthouse, which is @40 miles north of Anchorage on the way to Mt. McKinley. Very beautiful country! The courthouses in Alaska are not like the lower 48, they are trial courts only and run by the state. We also issue marriage licenses at my court and also orders that allow lay people to perform marriage ceremonies. My day is varied and sometimes interesting! I really love my job. I've been sewing since I was 11 and started quilting 13 years ago. I took my first class, Quilt in a Day Log Cabin, and was hooked! I took a class a month for the next year, then attended Quilt in a Day's teacher training and started teaching shortly thereafter. I love teaching, it's so fun when people see a finished quilt that they made! My other interests are varied, I love history, camping and traveling anywhere, am a “Stampin Up” demonstrator and addicted to HGTV and Trading Spaces! Well, I'll give someone else a chance to talk!
Beth in CT
My name is Beth. I'm a soon to be 49, mother of three great kids....Luke, 22.. Jeremiah, 8 and Sarah, 7. This August my husband & I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary. Time sure does fly !!! I've been quilting consistently for the last 8 years, although I've always sewn and made my first quilt in the early 80's....that was when the style was the puffier the better...LOL...I still have those quilts and still am proud of them but my how times/styles/colors all seem to change. I love antique quilts and would like to collect them but for now all I can do is recreate them. I enjoy quilting books and magazines and sometimes I think my hobby is 'reading' about quilts because there is just not all the time needed to make every quilt I see and love. In my free time I also enjoy square dancing, painting, stamping.... what can I say... I love crafting.

Suzanne- in Texas
Good Morning Ladies, I live in Wylie Texas, which is just outside Dallas. I am 48 yrs. old (had to stop and think on that one!) and am married to the sweetest, most generous, sensitive guy in the whole world! It took me almost 39 years of my life to find him but I am so grateful that I did. (Maybe he found me?) He is supportive of my sewing mania too! Can't beat that. We have 3 dogs, all orphaned at our door (or within a mile). All spoiled to the core. DH has one son in Colorado and I have a daughter in California. Both are grown. I am a stay-at-home wife with a sewing business on the side. I do local street fairs etc. and do commission work to try to keep up with my fabric addiction. Learned to sew in 4-H and at home from my mother. Started sewing again about 10 yrs. ago and haven't stopped since. I make quilts, dolls, pillows, tote bags, doll furniture etc. I tend to try a lot of different things.Anyway, that is part of who I am. I look forward to the chatter and swaps and tips.
